When the kitten Miracle came to FCAP, we had no avenue to
cover exceptional medical costs for severly injured or very sick Feral Cats and Kittens. Baby Miracle inspired a desperate
fund-raising effort. In this courageous kitten's name FCAP introduces the Miracle Fund, specifically established to
off-set the cost of treating FCAP cats with severe injuries or illnesses.
Miracle was a two-day-old kitten when she was found in the pouring rain among
her dead siblings, with no evidence of a mother cat. A caring lady happened across Miracle and called FCAP for help.
She was brought into out Foster Program where Sue Lawson took her home to bottle
feed her. She responed well to the bottle feeding, but it was noticed that she had a small Hernia on her belly.
Unfortunately, when Miracle was 2 weeks old and 2 ounces in weight, the Hernia became very large.
Sue rushed her to Lawndale Veterinary Hospital, where the doctors felt that
she would die if she did not have emergency surgery.
The vets held little hope for Miracle's survival. In surgery, they discovered
that she had a severe birth defect: absolutely no internal abdominal wall on one side. All of her internal organs
had slipped out of her abdominal cavity into a skin sac. The vets said it would be a "Miracle" if she survived until
morning.
Today, Miracle is an active, eight month old kitten because of exceptional verterninary
care and her own strong desire to live. She was adopted into her "forever home" by Bessie and Joe Fulk.
